Grumpy RPG Reviews: World of Darkness

I really like the new dice mechanic. I feel it is much quicker and more streamlined. Just making a single attack roll is nice.

However, we have run into the problem in that firearms are not always as lethal as they should be. If it takes - on average - three dice to result in at least one success, we have seen gunfights where a for is being chipped away by a shotgun. How on earth anyone can be hit three times by a shotgun and not be dead is beyond me, but we saw that happen once and just scratched out head.

In general we really enjoy the system and love the way you can use the World of Darkness line to emulate any kind of mortals based horror/modern fantasy you like.

A lot of game lines have similar issues with hitting and damage and the results not making any damn sense - in some game your character can eat a live grenade and not die.

The new WoD has a lot of possibilities, though I do miss Wraith.

Was Geist an acceptable alternative?

I have not explored Geist... I may have to examine it.

Honestly? Love the system updates in the "new" world of Darkness as compared to the old - but the game's setting has gone from great to atrocious. Pale Puppy reallllly threw the baby out with the bathwater when they updated their systems. I'm sticking to my classic World of Darness stuff.
